Altered Project: Fairy Home Decor (Little Yellow Bicycle Fern and Forest Girl)

(as seen in Scrapbooking & Beyond magazine)

I created this home decor piece back in April but it was picked up by Scrapbooking & Beyond magazine (for the winter issue) so I've had to wait until now to share it with you.

This project started as three separate wood pieces, bought at Hobby Lobby — the beveled heart, dowel and rectangular base. My handy hubby drilled holes in the bottom of the heart (at the point) and the center of the base and fit the pieces together. Once everything was glued together and painted white, I was able to get my hands on it. :)

I used Little Yellow Bicycle's Fern and Forest Girl collection, along with some of my favorite May Arts twill ribbon, and went to town creating a decor piece that would be sweet as a birthday party center piece or in a little girl's room (or, as Christmas decor as shown in the magazine. They actually titled the piece, "Christmas Whimsy").

Would you like to take a closer look? Here are some detail shots:

Sparkly clear cut stars on the dowel:

Showing a bit of the layering and dimension on the heart:

A closer look at the heart. There's a doodled flourish clear cut tucked in with the diecuts. There's another flourish behind the "flying" chipboard fairy at the top of the piece.

Thanks for stopping by today! Enjoy the rest of your day.
