Altered Project: Girls Flower Flip Flops (American Crafts)

Here's a look at the cute flip flops I mentioned last week. The flip flops are from Joann's. At $2 a pair, I couldn't resist those polka dots.

My Creative Scrapbook's main kit included a beautiful package of American Crafts Flower Shoppe flowers (you can see them in the top right middle of the photo above) and a length of sheer white ribbon (rolled up just below the flowers) this month. Add in a bottle of distress paint and I had everything I needed to upcycle these cute summer staples.

Each flower has four layers (two larger and two smaller). I removed the smaller, top layers from two flowers and swapped the centers. Before putting the pieces back together, I glued a length of sheer ribbon (the zig zag stitch down the center was added with my sewing machine) between the layers, notching the ends of the ribbon to resemble a banner. I used the distress paint to highlight the edges of each flower petal.

So there you have it. Cute and easy, don't you think?

  3. Lisa, I love the way you swapped out the centers of the flowers so you could get one pair of flip flops from a single package of flowers. These are so cute and look like they came from a boutique.

Or at least it does look that way.
And the colors of the flowers work so well with the flip flops!
