Cropped to Death Book Giveaway with Guest Christina Freeburn

Do you love scrapbooking? Well, of course you do or you wouldn't be visiting my blog. :) Do you love mysteries? I know I do. My guest today is a scrapbooker AND a suspense and mystery author. Please welcome Christina Freeburn. Christina has a new book coming out called Cropped to Death and she is going to give a copy away to one of my lucky readers (more about this at the end of the post). I can promise that you will chuckle as you read, you'll be in suspense, and you'll be able to relate to the characters. Right now let's learn a bit about Christina, see some of her work, and take a peek at where she does her writing and creating.

"One of my favorite games as a child was creating worlds and people in my head and acting them out. When I was in the ninth grade, I started writing a book with a friend during the bus ride to and from school. I was surprised to find out I liked writing. Before then, it had always been essays and book reports and I struggled with those. I shouldn't have been surprised as fiction writing allowed my creations to become 'solid'.

When I got serious about getting published, I found I needed another outlet for creating. I wanted one for relaxation; a creative hobby rather than one that was also work. I needed something that was just 'for me' to enjoy and have fun. Since I also enjoyed taking pictures, scrapbooking was a natural fit. As I got more into the hobby of scrapbooking, I couldn't help but think what a wonderful back drop it made for a story...a mystery in particular since it's my favorite genre. I thought about it long and hard because I was afraid combining my creative hobby with my creative work might turn them both into work.

I found myself unable to pick a new writing project because the scrapbooking mystery took up my 'mind'. The only way to move onto the next book was to get this one out of my head. So, I sat down and started writing. On November 20, my scrapbooking mystery Cropped to Death will be released. I'm so excited to have this book that blends my love of mysteries with my love of scrapbooking out in the world.

Scrapbooking confession time: I'm a 'happy scrapper'. Like my character Faith in Cropped to Death, my mind unfortunately can hold onto the disappointments in my life and overshadow the good. I like my scrapbooks to remind me of all the happiness there is in my life. My 'happy place' is Disney World...anything to do with Disney. There is just something about it that melts away all the stress and surrounds me with happiness.

Here's a layout I've done of a visit to Castaway Cay, Disney's private island. My husband and I decided to celebrate our 20th anniversary by going on a cruise.

I'm going to be giving away one copy of Cropped to Death. The 'official' book releases November 20 and I'll mail out a copy to one winner on November 26. To enter, please leave a comment from today until November 16 telling us what your 'happy place' is. I'll contact Lisa with the winner's name on November 20."

To whet your appetite, here is the book description from Christina's blog:

"Former US Army JAG specialist, Faith Hunter, returns to her West Virginia home to work in her grandmothers' scrapbooking store determined to lead an unassuming life after her adventure abroad turned disaster. But her quiet life unravels when her friend is charged with murder – and Faith inadvertently supplied the evidence. So Faith decides to cut through the scrap and piece together what really happened. With a sexy prosecutor, a determined homicide detective, a handful of sticky suspects and a crop contest gone bad, Faith quickly realizes if she’s not careful, she’ll be the next one cropped."

  13. I love mysteries AND scrapbooking! My happy place is home. When I got home from work today, I was changing and thought about how happy I was to be home. Granted, there are days that are not so happy (no place is perfect), but I feel so blessed to have a happy place to come home to. I know there are some people who don't have that.

  14. Sounds like a fun book! As I am trying my hand at writing a novel (though it's not scrapbooking related - maybe next time?) I do love scrapping plots - so easy to relate to a character that is a memory keeper. Love a good mystery too! Thanks for spotlighting her! :)
