Summer Smiles (Little Yellow Bicycle Splash)

I have more Little Yellow Bicycle Splash Collection goodness to share with you today. :) I'm having so much fun with this collection!

A couple of things to point out...The vellum tape strips are awesome! I wanted to create a "loop" to use on this page (see top right corner) but didn't want it to get flattened once the layout was in an album. So, a plumbing supply of all things came to the rescue (well, Tom came to the rescue by suggesting it)! I snipped a piece off of a length of clear flexible plastic piping (it's the diameter of a drinking straw) and rolled the tape strip over it. That baby isn't going to flatten now and the bonus is that you can't see it!

Another fun thing you can do is cut the Fresh Verse stickers apart, either to fit the size of the space you are using them in or use only a portion and save the rest for another project. For this page, I cut one of the quotes into three pieces so I could stack them in the space above the umbrella. Oh, and see the dark blue "3. relax, 4. enjoy" to the left of the umbrella? I used the top portion of that sticker on another layout.

So these are my fun tips for today. Have a great one!

Ten Plus One (Echo Park Sweet Day)

I love this shot of Alexa blowing out the candles on her birthday cookie cake. Because it was taken at night and there wasn't much light, the photo came out kind of dark. Since it was all I had to work with, I thought I'd make the best of it. Enter some PhotoShop actions, vintage ones to be exact. Now I really love the photo and the soft look of it and how it complements the papers so nicely.

What do you do if an important photo doesn't come out as you expected? Do you trash it? Do you tweak it? Do you turn it to black and white? Do you do something else? I'd love to hear some ideas. :)

Card Share: Best Fishes (Little Yellow Bicycle Splash)

I'm back today to share another Little Yellow Bicycle Splash project, this time a card. I made this to send to my nephew who is spending a month at sleep away camp. The fish are clear cut transparencies. I added a bit of dimension to them by using pearls and rhinestones for eyes.

Down Under (Little Yellow Bicycle Splash)

Isn't this background paper fun? Water droplets (or splashes if you wish) everywhere. It's from Little Yellow Bicycle's new Splash collection (as is everything else on the page). I love how it works so well with this fun underwater photo of Alexa having fun in a friend's pool.

Beauty and the Beach (Fancy Pants Rusted Sun)

(as seen in Scrapbooking & Beyond magazine)

This is the last of the layouts I had in the summer issue of Scrapbooking & Beyond magazine. I used mostly Fancy Pants Rusted Sun with a bit of October Afternoon added in too. I just love this sun kissed and wind swept photo of Alexa so you know I had to scrap it, right? :)

Myrtle Beach Highlights (Echo Park Splash)

(as seen in Scrapbooking & Beyond magazine)

I'm back today to share another page that appeared in the summer issue of Scrapbooking & Beyond magazine. While we were on vacation last year, I kept a journal of what we did every day. Well, the three of us were SUPPOSED to write in it but you know how that goes. LOL! Once we got home, I typed our daily adventures into a word processing program and printed it all directly on the background cardstock. I could use a visit to the beach right about now. How about you? Do you prefer lakes or oceans?

Pretty Pinks (Echo Park Hello Summer)

These are some of the beautiful peonies that grow in our garden. I love them all...the soft, ruffled petals, the color variations and of course, the fragrant smell (although Tom swears they don't smell. Something is wrong with that man but he probably says they don't smell because he's partial to roses, LOL!)

I didn't have enough alphas for my title so instead of using the stickers themselves, I cut out the negative space left behind by stickers I've already used. It's like getting two for the price of one! :)

All Kinds of Happy (Simple Stories Summer Fresh)

Are you sick of seeing Summer Fresh layouts from me yet? LOL! I can't stop using this collection. I love it so much! I'm at the point now that I need to reorder a bunch of it, especially the basics.

I love this photo of Alexa playing on her Slip 'n Slide. The colors are so vibrant and you can see the little droplets of water too. :)

Making Waves (Echo Park Splash)

(as seen in Scrapbooking & Beyond)

This page arrived on my doorstep yesterday (as did two others that I will share next week). You can see it in the summer issue of Scrapbooking & Beyond magazine. I created this page last year using a photo of Alexa from our Myrtle Beach vacation. Don't you just love how the background paper looks like ocean waves? I love the movement they create and couldn't resist running my title along one of them. :)

Making a "Splash" with Little Yellow Bicycle

(All images courtesy of Little Yellow Bicycle)
Have you seen Little Yellow Bicycle's new Splash collection? Take a look at the gorgeous colors in the paper sample above. I love it and I'm so excited to share that I was invited to be part of the Splash Cycling Team. Yes, I'm having another cycling adventure with LYB! :) Not only do I love the collection, but I am so excited to try out some of the new products like the Mini Flag Kit:
and the Vellum Tape Strips:
I'll be sure to let you know when my projects go up on the LYB blog, but for now, if you'd like to see more of the collection, take a look here. :)

Card Share: Bus Driver Thank You (Cosmo Cricket Boyfriend)

I can't say enough about how much I'm going to miss Alexa's bus driver, Mr. Jim (well that's what Alexa calls him. Me? I call him Jim. LOL!) We didn't know, until she was in second grade, that he was the father of one of her kindergarten teachers. It's such a small world! He has been so nice and so helpful over the past five years and has really watched over my girl. :) We bought him a gift certificate to the bait and tackle shop to go inside. He's an avid boater and fisherman. Oh, and the 107 refers to his bus number.

My hope is that I can convince the bus department to put Jim on the middle school route in the fall. We figure it would be pretty cool to have the same bus driver all the way from elementary school to high school. It would be so neat for him to be able to watch the kids grow up over that period. Wish me luck! :)

You R My Sunshine (Simple Stories Fabulous)

Here's my silly girl trying to take a drink from the plumes of water coming out of the Slip 'n Slide. Supposedly the water was too cold to play in but drinking it must be a whole other ballgame. LOL!

Card Share: Girl Scout Leader Thank Yous

At this time of year, not only do I like to thank Alexa's teachers, but her Girl Scout leaders as well. They work so hard throughout the year, helping the girls meet badge requirements and shepherding them to all sorts of events. Yes, a thank you is definitely in order!

I made these cards with a "sweet" theme for a reason. We bought gift cards to the new frozen yogurt bar to put inside. I pulled out a bunch of scraps (Bella Blvd., top and Crate Paper, bottom) and got to work, adding in a couple of Rain Dots to highlight the embellishments and I printed a banner sentiment to match either the ice cream cone ("cool") or cupcake ("sweet").

So there you have it. Do you have anyone you need to thank today? :)

Forever Grateful (My Mind's Eye Liberty)

Reading a book about a World War II veteran's story of resilience and survival caused me to watch this year's Memorial Day parade with fresh eyes. When two Humvees carrying veterans of World War II and the Korean War passed by, my eyes filled with tears. Our military personnel make many sacrifices for the good of our country and to sustain the rights so many take for granted. I am forever grateful to them all, past and present.

Enjoy S'More (Echo Park Sweet Day)

Raise your hand if you love s'mores. :) We do, although we don't have them often. They bring back memories of my days as a Girl Scout. Memorial Day weekend was the perfect time to make them. When we ran out of chocolate (I only bought a couple of mini Hershey bars), we went on to eating toasted marshmallows. At one point we got a bit silly and tried to see shapes in the toasted marshmallows (you know, like trying to see shapes in the clouds).

I hope this post didn't leave anyone with a craving. I can tell you that working with Echo Park's Sweet Day collection for this layout gave me a craving for cupcakes. LOL! :) Have a sweet day!

Freshly Sunkissed (Bella Blvd. Sunshine & Happiness)

Isn't this a fun page? Doesn't it scream summer and sunshine? I think so (and it's OK if you don't, LOL!) I mixed some older Bella Blvd. Sunny Happy Skies in with the new Sunshine & Happiness collection. So nice that the colors in both collections complement each other so well (and nice to be able to use up some scraps).

We were so blessed to be able to enjoy high temps and sunshine during Memorial Day weekend (this doesn't happen much in upstate New York). Alexa pulled out a bathing suit, played on her Slip 'n Slide and ran through the sprinkler. Life is good! :)

Teacher Tuesday: End of Year Teacher Gift Ideas

We interrupt this week's Tasty Tuesday to bring you Teacher Tuesday. :)

I know for some of you school is already out, and has been for a while, but we're at 11 days and counting. Time to start thinking about end of the year teacher gifts. Today I'm sharing some ideas I've come across and some that friends have shared with me.

1. Insulated cup filled with powdered drink packets by Lisa Storms. This is the idea I'm going with. I found two-packs of these cups (actually with a floral design) at Home Goods for $7. Target currently has the powdered drink packets in the Dollar Spot. I also bought a box of Choxie chocolate truffles on clearance at Target that I plan to put in here as well since Alexa's teacher loves chocolate. Be sure to look at Lisa's other amazing gift and party ideas (link on her blog).

2. Here's another variation on the insulated cup by Glue Dots. This idea includes twine-wrapped bundles of drink packets held together by a patterned paper band. Great way to use up patterned paper scraps.

3. Mason jar gift card holder by Melissa Stinson for Pink Paislee. This gorgeous project is a bit more involved but it can be adapted for any paper collection or occasion.

4. Candy tubes by Ashley Newell for A Cherry On Top. I have a bunch of these tubes saved and now I know what to do with them. These too can be adapted for any occasion but how cute would they be filled with a teacher's favorite candy or some pencils or other office supplies?

5. Transparency pouches by Melissa Phillips for Simple Stories. Every Simple Stories collection kit comes with a package of 4 x 6 coordinating transparencies that can be used to make this adorable pouch filled with licorice sticks (or even wrapped candy and a gift card). Take a look at other variations on this idea by following the link.

6. Rolo candy pencils from The Blackberry Vine blog. Aren't these adorable? I know I wouldn't mind getting one...or two...or three. LOL!

7. Just in case you weren't inspired enough...The Happy Home Fairy blog has a great compilation of other ideas from around the web.

So there you have it...ideas to get your creative juices flowing. If you've come across other craft-related teacher gift ideas, I'd love to see. I can use all of the inspiration I can get. :)

Party in the Garden (Echo Park Hello Summer)

(Based on a sketch by Kandis Smith for Echo Park)

We have a peony party going on in our garden right now. The plants have really come into their own this year and are full of big, lush, beautiful blooms in various shades of pink. And the scent? Divine! Peonies are my favorite flower. How about you? :)

Card Share: Happy Birthday, Cupcake

June is a big birthday month in our family, so I thought I'd get started on card making for the special occasions to come. This features the all new Echo Park Hello Summer collection. I added in some clear Rain Dots (remember those?) to act as sprinkles and highlight the polka dots on the chipboard cupcake.
